MARYLAND CITY, Maryland — A child was killed, and two men were critically injured in a crash Monday evening on Baltimore Washington Parkway, officials said.
In the Northbound Baltimore Washington Parkway firefighters responded to a crash near Route 198 just before 11 p.m. A 911 caller at the scene told firefighters that she believed a vehicle had run into the median strip and down an embankment, officials said. The vehicle was not visible from the roadway.
After investigating, firefighters found a heavily damaged car down the embankment. It was wedged between trees and on its side with two young men still trapped inside, officials said.
Firefighters also found the body of a 6-year-old girl in nearby brush. She had been ejected from the vehicle. The paramedics declared her deceased at the scene, officials said. There is no word yet as to whether or not she was wearing her seatbelt.
Baltimore Crash Also Injures Two Men
Paramedics requested two medevac helicopters for the two trapped occupants. They arrived as the emergency responders were finishing their extractions of two men in the vehicle.
The driver of the car, a man in his late 20s, was freed in about 45 minutes. He was then moved to a United States Park Police medevac helicopter and taken to MedStar Washington Hospital Center. He had critical, life-threatening injuries, officials said.
The passenger of the vehicle, a man also in his late 20s, was freed 30 minutes later. A Maryland State Police medevac helicopter took him to Shock Trauma with critical, life-threatening injuries, officials said.
The United States Park Police is the primary investigating agency. If you have any information about this horrible accident, please give the investigators a call. They would love to learn more about what happened in order to help the girl’s family get closure.
