Reports are coming in that in the first month of 2024, 353,000 jobs were added to the market and are actively hiring in the United States. People are saying that this is the economy’s way of fighting back against the high interest rates we are seeing in the country. This number surpassed the amount that was reported in December, which had 333,000 jobs added. Despite the growth in jobs hiring, the unemployment rate stayed the same, still sitting at 3.7%.
The country is in an interesting position with jobs at the moment as reports are issued showing that jobs and positions are constantly being added and advertised as hiring, but most anecdotes from people show that most companies are not really hiring.
Time and time again people have discussed the issues they are having with the current job market.
Most young people who are in their early years actively working or are just going into the job market have faced far more challenges than ever before. Employers are disregarding applications and applicants more often than ever, interviews are going nowhere for people, and some jobs do not end up being what they say they are. Many have taken to sharing their stories of jobs in which they were told they were hired or received a job offer, only for them to soon thereafter never hear from the employer again about a start date, or even having an offer rescinded for seemingly no reason.
Employees are now more scared than ever for the future of a job from start to finish of the hiring process.
People can no longer trust a job working out until after they have actually started. Even then, reports have been made about employees being ignored and never scheduled again with no real explanation as to why or they are being let go from a job after about a month, still with little to no real explanation. Industries that before had high turnover rates have even higher ones now and ones that offered stability before are now rocky.
It is hard to say what the future holds and if this trend continues. For now, all we can do is be hopeful that the added jobs stick and work, allowing more people to get back to work.
